Vacation Hair Recap

July 18, 2010

Vacay was fantastic!  I needed a getaway and Puerto Rico was lovely.  The views, the food and the laid back atmosphere were very much appreciated.

So let’s get down to the hair.  I knew I didn’t want to have to fluff, twist or roll my hair while on vacation.  I decided that I would pay a little visit to a place I rarely go: the hairdresser.   I would normally like sitting back and getting my hair done but the truth is that many stylists are uncomfortable with natural kinky hair which means I have to instruct, suggest and sometimes just comb my hair out myself.  Hence, I’d rather do it myself most of the time.

I wanted a two-strand twist and cornrow combination.  I figured that with this hairstyle I could get my hair wet in the pool or beach and wash it when needed while maintaining a cute style.  At the salon, my hair was washed and deep conditioned for about 30 minutes under a heat cap with Miss Jessie’s Rapid Recovery Treatment.  My hair felt wonderfully soft after the DC.  The conditioner was rinsed out thoroughly and my hair was styled using Miss Jessie’s Baby Buttercream.   (I never tried this product before because it contains some mineral oil but my hair was shiny, frizz free and smelled good.)

I’ll post more pics of my hair after washing it and more on the products I used while I was away.  (I forgot to pack some things-  oopsy- so I didn’t have all of my stash with me.)  Stay tuned for part two.

    Hi Regina!

I love the twists on you…in fact, I have been wearing this exact style this summer! The twists are sweet but the cornrows add a little funk and mostly, I love that you dont have to do much with it !

This must be a very popular tourist stop; I took that exact same picture when I went to PR @ 3 yrs ago lol

Great job on the hair! I think I may start revisiting cornrows as a dread. I need a change in my routine.

    Hi Regina.

I am definitely considering going to PR (I am overdue for a vacation). That is definitely a beautiful picture. I’ve also been meaning to try Miss Jessie’s. Your post may just get me to spend that money.

Hello tiffnicky. Thanks. I had a lovely time in PR. I hope to go back. If you do try Miss Jessie’s, I would recommend purchasing the samples sizes first.

Hello Ansley. It was called El Morro. It was very beautiful. Unfortunately, I got there when it had closed for tours. I just ending up walking around the grounds and taking pictures. Hopefully, when I revisit Puerto Rico, I will get to see more of the fort.
