Shingai Shoniwa of Noisettes

August 22, 2009

A couple of weeks ago, the band Noisettes passed through my town of NYC and I had the ultimate pleasure of witnessing the spellbinding songstress, Shingai Shoniwa, work her magic along with drummer Jaime Morrison and guitarist Dan Smith.  They killed it with gems like Scratch DSCN0341Your Name, Saturday Night and Never Forget You.  This was my first time experiencing the band’s live performance and I must say that Shingai is the definition of a lead singer.

This woman shimmies, shakes and sprints across the stage like anyone captivated by good music would.  She effortlessly interchanges enchanting pixie and ravishing rocktress.  If you can’t tell by now, this makes it all the more fun.  Even if you don’t know the words to any Noisettes songs, you’ll be humming along as the set goes on (and maybe continuing well after you’ve left the show).

Shingai not only proved that she was fearless that night when it came to the music, but alsoDSCN0362 with her hair (and wardrobe for that matter).  She has a  mane that beautifully defies gravity.  I love her unapologetic style in every way.  Basically, this band rocks and Shingai definitely does her part to solidify that.  If you aren’t up to speed with them yet, what are you waiting for?
