My Roll

July 19, 2009

As much as I love my puff, sometimes I don’t want to wear my hair out. I needed a quick style one day that kept my hair, specifically my ends, protected. My roll was born that day and I’ve been incorporating it into my hairstyles ever since.

I usually start with a small (about 2 inches long) part in the front on the right. I use my fingers or a wide tooth comb and comb my hair down. I start the roll by tucking the first portion of hair under and securing it with a flat bobby pin. I roll the rest of my hair along my head securing with straight hairpins as I go. Just roll, (Stuff hair down into the roll so it can be packed and firm.) hold that section of hair with down with one hand and with your free hand place enough pins to hold that section in place. Then, move on to the next portion of the roll and repeat the steps until you return to the front of your head but on the opposite side that you started. Once the roll is all done, I like to (and usually have to) go along the roll again adding more hairpins to smooth out any lumpy parts. If one section of your roll is not looking right, you may be able to remove that one portion and smooth it without undoing the entire roll. Trail and error are the keys to mastering your technique.
